-4-
Description of the Operations and Reclamation Plan
The applicant currently holds mining and reclamation permit no. C-055-82 for a
total of 1,549 acres. Of this total approximately 40 acres were planned to be
disturbed by surface facilities. To date the extent of surface disturbance is
29 acres. Two permanent structures, a sediment pond and a diversion totalling
2.5 acres will not be reclaimed.
Sundance Coal Company submitted a letter on September 1984, describing
temporary cessation of operations at the Animas Mine. It is their intentlion
not to reopen the mine under their ownership, but rather the mine will remain
closed until it is sold.
The permit revision application entails calculating reclamation costs far
current, existing disturbance, forfeiting permit approval for any and all
additional approved disturbance and facilities, and replacing the current bond
for one that covers current existing disturbances and facilities only.
Therefore, during reclamation activities the following facilities and
structures will be removed or reclaimed:
Mine Office and Shower Facilities
Parking Lot
Mine fans
Conveyor belts (4)
Rotary breaker
Coal stackers (4)
Reject Hopper
Coal stockpiles (4)
Coal feeder
Reclaim tunnels (2)
Prep Plant
Water Tanks (2)
Fuel tanks (3)
Oil, fluid drums (40)
Explosives hiagzine
Security Building.
Coal 1 ab
Steam Cleaner Building
Earthwork will be conducted at the Animas and Helen mine portals to seal and
then backfill and grade both portal acres. The permanent diversion culvert
will be removed. The refuse pile will be graded to the approved configuration
then covered with 3.5 feet of non-toxic, non-combustible material and 6 inches
of topsoil. The remainder of the site will also be covered with 6 inches of
topsoil. Upon completion of grading and topsoiling the entire area will be
seeded and mulched.
The operation and reclamation plans for the three coal train loadouts in town
will remain unchanged.
Therefore, approval for construction and use of the following facilities will
be forfeit upon approval of this application:
Truck scale
Topsoil stockpile #2
Storage building
Trailer Park
North Mine truck bin
North Mine belt
~i. 1 >~ ~,~~.
J.• ~iN~'IIidE.lle ,~ ~,
,.
