Portions of the property to
the west and southwest of the treatment plant in Lot 6 would appear
to have been undermined by operations of the pre-law (pre 1977)
Blue Flame Mine. Refer to the attached mine plan map. I have
indicated on the map the boundaries of the Ute Water Conservation
District facility as a reference point. The location and
dimensions of this facility were taken from other maps submitted by
the mining company. Note the less than exact correspondence
between the dimensions shown on this map and the dimensions shown
on the map you faxed to me.
With respect to the Roadside Mine operations, limited coal
extraction was conducted beneath the water conservancy district
treatment plant facilities to prevent subsidence. In general, the
Roadside permit requires the operator to minimize subsidence by
limiting the extraction ratio to less than 50~ below major
drainages and associated alluvial aquifers, as well as water lines
and similar structures. For surface structures requiring
additional support, intact blocks of coal have been left in place
beneath the structures.
Detailed mineplan information is available at the Division office
located at 2148 Broadway ~`C-5, Grand Junction, 81503, as well as
the Denver office of the Division (see letterhead address). In
addition, you may wish to contact Larry Reschke of Powderhorn Coal
Company, (464-7951).
