Dealmbor1,2003 <br />Face 7-7_ <br />B <br />biological evaluation (BE) -Refers to the information prepared by or under the direction of the Forest <br />Service concerning listed and Regional Forester sensitive species that maybe present in the' action area <br />and the evaluation of potential effects of the alternatives on such species and habitat. <br />C <br />CEQ -Council on Environmental Quality - A body established by NEPA to draft regulations for <br />implementing and monitoring NEPA. <br />cultural resource -Any prehistoric site, as well as historic site, that is more than 50 years old. <br />cumulative impacts -Combined impacts of the past, present and reasonably foreseeable future actions. <br />For example, the impacts of a proposed timber sale and the development of a mine together result in <br />cumulative impacts. <br />D <br />E <br />EA -Environmental Assessment - a document that identifies potential effects on the environment from <br />a proposed action to determine whether those effects may be significant. <br />effects - "Effect' and "impact" are synonymous as used in this report. Direct or primary effects are those <br />caused by the project and occur at the same time and place. Indirect, or secondary, effects are those that <br />result from the project that occur later in time or are farther removed in distance and time, but are still <br />reasonably foreseeable. <br />EIS -Environmental Impact Statement - A detailed written statement as required by Section 12(2)(c) <br />of NEPA (40 CFR 1508.11). An analytical document prepared under NEPA that portrays potential impacts <br />to the human environment of a proposed action and its possible alternatives. An EIS is developed for use <br />by decision makers to weigh the environmental consequences of a potential decision. <br />endangered species -Any species that is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of <br />its range. <br />environment -The physical conditions that exist within the area that will be affected by a proposed <br />project, including land, water, minerals, flora, fauna, and objects of historical or aesthetic significance. <br />The area involved is the area in which significant effects would occur either directly or indirectly as a <br />result of the project. The "environment" includes both natural and human-made conditions. <br />ephemeral stream - A stream or portion of a stream that Flows only in direct response to precipitation of <br />snow melt.
