r~ ,
i

Page 2
Rick Mi115
Flay 22, 1980

reclaimed slopes. As I indicated to Energy Fuel's personnel
during our site examination, if this information determines
that a possible problem could exist, then a more sop'+isticeted
groundwater hydrology and slope stability analysis may be
required.

2) I am concerned about the steep slope situation throughout approximately
the northeastern most one thousand feet of the reclaimed pit. The natural
slope in this area obviously exceeded 20°, and evidence exists of instability
within the ungraded spoil in that area. I believe that the reclaimed spoil
will not be capable of sustaining the original slope angle without particular
care in compaction and surface drainage. I believe we should pursue reclamation
at as low a slope angle as practical, allowing variation from approximate
original contour in this specific area. Extension of the toe of the
reclaimed slope towards the natural drainage course would still be necessary
in order to lower the overall average reclaimed slope angle. The slope could
be blended into the natural slope contours at the northeastern boundary if
some ingenuity is exercised by Energy Fuels. This should result in a drainage
channel at or near the northeastern boundary which Jerry Zimpfer should
carefully review for its design specifics. In order to thoroughly analyze
this situation, we should also have a cross section prepared and submitted
by Energy Fuels at a location several hundred Feet southwest of the northeastern
edge of the mine pit. This section should extend from slightly northeast
of the natural drainage to slightly above the low wall upslope boundary
of the pit. This cross section should also include the bottom elevations
of the pit, the original ground surface, and the proposed final reclaimed
surface.
Jim Pendleton
/k
