Hi Wendy
I'm sure you've received the County response regarding human waste disposal
during our mining operations.
would like sc me clarification.
We are operati.^.g ~~itn the assumatio.^. that solid huma r. waste will be ta:<z r:
care of off sitz. we are off si*_e daily to take care of hygiene, etc. If
we hav=_ an emergency, '.:e have a chemical toilet available. Or, if w=_ are
ou*_ prospecting, etc., or doing activities away from the main operation
site and we have an emergency, we are disposing of solid waste through
minimum impact practices--dig a hole a~.uay from water, etc.
I did rot assume that meant urine as well which is implied by the County
letter. Except in core entrated amounts or in the same location daily,
etc., urine, a sterilz waste product which is high in nitrogen, etc. is a
useful fertilizer. Are we at the point that humans are not allowed to
urinate in the national forest? I understand from a health prospecti~:e
tha*_ if we are camped in a fixed spot for an extended period, you bring in
flies, etc., like a cattle feedlot. If, instead through reasonable
attention to hygiene, this is dispersed over a wide area (or in an
excavation to be buried) Z don't believe it is a problem. As you know, we
will not be in any one area for an extended period of time. Our total
useage is 60 days over several sites on several 20-acre mining claims. My
work crew is generally three people, except for visitors, and my dog.
(Should the dog be included as well?)
I appreciate ycur thoughts and any reference to scientific research that
shows that with the l=_-:el of impact planned (with accompanying urination)
is so detrimental to the environment that we need a Aorta potty.
I realize you do havz a huge work load and this may not be a hot item, so
this could be on= of those things you reply to when time permits. I see it
-~ a future potential issue. Maybe the forest service guidelines are
sead7 writtzn. I'm more curious from a scientific stand point.
^hanks agair. fcr all pcu do
Joe Dorris
2
