Baillie: <br />After repeated requests fron 1`r. i?illiams and Mr. Bozarth for an <br />alternate plan for the diversion of the storm water, we have had Survey <br />~, Design Company prepare a topo map of the ldestpit area and propose an <br />alignment for the diversion. <br />There are two watersheds to be considered: the large 300 acre <br />undisturbed area and the small approximately 1C acre disturbed area. <br />lour work in June, 1992, attempted tc divert the •.~ater from the 300 acre <br />area through a small ditch and a 30 inch culvert. Two subsequent rain <br />storms demonstrated that the culvert was inadequate to transmit the <br />~aolume of water and the discharge from the culvert quickly eroded <br />several feet dorm into an abandoned coal mine. <br />The proposed alignment diverts the water from the small 10 acre area <br />through the 30 inch culvert into the existing sediment pond. The volume <br />of water e~:pected from a 10 year event should be handled by the cul~~er*_. <br />The diversion alignment is proposed to be an open ditch of adequate <br />dimensions to transmit the volume of water also expected from a 10 year <br />event, and would be probably a vee ditch 12 feet wide and 6 feet deep. <br />This ditch is shown on the profile with approximately 1% grade and about <br />800 feet long. About 500 cu. yd, of cut and similar volume of fill <br />would be required. The existing culvert could be used for the 10 acre <br />water diversion.
