iiiiiiiiiiiiimm
The Corley Company 999
P~an~ 6J P~5050 P. O. Boa 1831
030 E. FO NTAN ERO. SUITE 101 ~ COLORA00 SPRINGS, COLO. 80901
Sept. 25, 1986
Mr. David C. Shelton
Director, Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Shelton:

SEP 2 6 1986

I am again writing with our concerns of the public safety with regard to
the lack of reclamation by GEC Minerals, Inc. in Fremont County. In
addition we are concerned that GEC has not maintained the timetable as
agreed per the listed orders of the Board dated Oct. 25, 1984.
The East Pit reclamation has not progressed except for a token gesture a
'few months ago, certainly far less has been accomplished than required.
As a result, the highwalls still present a danger especially with
hunting season in a few weeks.
Prior reclamation of other areas is not entirely satisfactory or has not
been finished. The area of the Canon National Mine known as the Pros-
pecting Pit, which was filled with wash plant refuse by Dorchester Coal
Mine about three years ago, has never been finished graded or seeded.
The various water diversion measures attempted by GEC in that area in
about 1980 have never been reclaimed. I do not find any mention of
these disturbances in the reclamation plan.
The hill in the SW's Section 19 which was reclaimed and seeded has
numerous riles and gullies which have been mentioned several times in
various inspection reports by your Division, but there has been no
attempt to correct these problems. There are no fences to prevent
cattle from grazing this area, and considerable damage has occurred from
grazing.
The West Pit has very steep slopes which are also susceptible to water
erosion. The seeding in this area is not protected from grazing by any
fencing.
I would like to request a review of the entice reclamation activities by
GEC. If a site visit is appropriate, I could accompany you with suffi-
cient notice.
Sincerely,
`J`~@~~
W.D. Corley, Jr.
President
