However, development mining is continuing in our slopes on a three <br />shift per day basis. Our total work force now numbers 55 hourly and salary <br />employees. <br />The slowdown of coal production is due to the fact that we have been un- <br />able to secure a contract to sell our coal. We cannot anticipate when the <br />longwall will be operational because startup will only begin when we have <br />found a buyer for our product. <br />All aspects of environmental monitoring; backfilling, regrading, reveg- <br />etation, etc., will continue as they have in the past and as outlined in our <br />current permit to mine coal,and our new permit application to conduct coal <br />mining in Colorado. <br />The status of Number 3 mine remains as outlined in my letter "Temporary <br />Cessation of Operations for North Thompson Creek Mine Number 3", which I sent <br />to you in January, 1983. <br />If the Division requires more information or clarification of the status <br />of North Thompson Creek Mines, please feel free to call me at the mine office. <br />Sincerely, <br />.~~~.~- <br />Scott Jones <br />Environmental Coordinator <br />SJ:mgc <br />
