With some assurances that we can
effect economies through a Technical Revision to the mining and
reclamation plan and a substantial reduction in the federal royalty,
we feel that Kerr has a reasonable opportunity to develop new markets
and we are prepared to risk our time and money in doing so. With new
markets and prices that provide a margin of profit, we should be able
to make the capital additions necessary to bring employment and
production back to historic levels and again develop a viable industry
in Jackson County, Colorado.
Obviously, many of the things that must be done to revitalize the Kerr
operation cannot be done by Kerr unilaterally. In this regard, we ask
for and would appreciate any support you can give at both the state
and federal levels. If you desire, we would be happy to meet with you
at your earliest convenience to discuss the challenges facing Kerr
Coal Company.
Sincerely,
C ~~. Larson
President
JAL/njm
cc: Mr. David Shelton
Mined Land Reclamation Division
S
