Run-Of-
Mine Ore dated October 31. 1966.
Dear Mr. Keffelew:
The Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company ("CC&V") has received your letter dated
October 31, 1996, which is referenced above. In that letter, you transmitted two additional sets
of questions, or requests, in response to CC&V's letter of October 16, 1996. The following
information is provided to complete CC&V's response to the referenced inquiry.
The first set of questions in your letter inquires about further details of lime addition to the
Cresson Valley Leach Facility during periods of delivering run-of-mine ore to the Facility.
Specifically, the questions were:
"CC&VG notes that the placement of non-lime amended run-of-mine ore is
compensated for by adding lime to the crushed ore at a higher rate. Please
specify how this compensation is procedurally accomplished. Is it prorated
throughout the pile? Is it done on a truck load by truck load basis? How is it
accomplished operationally? Is the compensated material in immediate proximity
to the non-lime amended run-of-mine ore placement?"
As the Office of Mined Land Reclamation staff is aware, lime is added to ore passing through
the crushing facility using a screw feeder feeding from the lime storage silo. Lime is added to
retain cyanide in solution once the solution is applied. Lime is supplemented with sodium
hydroxide. The lime and sodium hydroxide additions will vary.
The run-of-mine ore does not contain lime when it is placed on the Valley Leach Facility.
Rather, when run-of-mine ore is being transported to the Valley Leach Facility, the rate of lime
