Box 103 <br />Delta, Co]orado 81416 <br />Re: Delta Sand and Gravel, Pit no. 5, Delta County <br />File No. 77-22 <br />Dear Mr. Starner: <br />Upon reviewing Delta Sand and Gravel's Pit No. 3 file, if appeared that the <br />$500.00 Financial Warranty (reflecting reclamation costs) is inadequate. <br />According to edition 11 of the Caterpillar Performance Handbook and the 1982 <br />Rental Bluebook for Construction Equipment, the cost for site preparation <br />using a D8K Caterpillar dozer (at 83% efficiency and 0% grade) is <br />approximately $. 97 per cubic yard. <br />If the 9.03 acre Pit No. 3 area requires grading, the following costs might be <br />incurred: <br />Grading of an area involving movement of between .5 and 2 feet of material <br />equates to: <br />.5ft x 43,560ft2/ac = 21,780ft3/ac = 27ft3/yd3 = 806.7yd3/ac <br />lft x 43,560ft2/ac = 43,560ft3/ac ; 27ft3/yd3 = 1,613yd3/ac <br />2ft x 43,560ft2/ac = 87,120ft3/ac 27ft3/yd = 3,226.7 yd3/ac <br />.5ft: 806.7yd3/ac x $.97/yd3 = $781.82/ac x 9/ac = $7,036.38 <br />lft: 1,613yd3/ac c $.91/yd3 = $1,564.61/ac x 9/ac = $14,081.49 <br />2f t: 3,226.7yd3/ac x $.97/yd3 = $3,129.22/ac x 9/ac = $28,162.98 <br />The cost of moving 6 inches to 2 feet of material for grading the 9-acre site <br />ranges from $7,036.38 to $28,162.98, respectively.
