• Cultural Fesources
The four historic and prehistoric sites directly ihreatenecl with destruction
by the mining were not determined to 'oe eligible for the National Register of
Historic Places. An eligible site, SMF948, lies outside tt~e permit area and
is an extensive pictograph that may yield important Snformeition to the
prehistory of the area. Two other prehistoric sites, SPfF2E~9 and SP1F680, which
are outside the permit area but within the life-of-mine mine plan area need to
be further evaluated for eligibillt}' to the National P.egis[er. However, none
of these sites will he impacted by proposed mining and will be protected from
future mining impacts (modification of the current permit cr the issuance of a
new permit) by stipulations (see Attachment B). The OSM ha.s requested and
received concurrence on recommendations of eligibility and a finding of "No
Effect" with stipulations from the Colorado Historic Preservation Officer on
the lands in the current permit and life-of-mine boundary (see concurrence
letter).
•
• -10-
