-44-
Coal from the No. 1 and No. 3 mines is conveyed to a central surge bin
and breaker by way of a 240-foot and 1880-foot elevated conveyor system,
respectively. Adjacent to the breaker are the office area, two coal
storage silos, a wash plant, and a closed system wastewater recycling
system. A small amount of coal is occasionally stored in an open
stockpile adjacent to the coal silos.
Fifteen hundred feet east of the wash plant is the coal refuse disposal
area. Coal refuse from the wash plant system, as well as underground
development waste, is disposed of at this location.
Coal from the mine storage silo is loaded into haul trucks. These trucks
transport the coal to the loadout truck dump by way of County Road IOB.
Coal is then unloaded into a truck dump binJ60 ton hopper on the west
side of the Roaring Fork, 2 miles west of Carbondale. From here, the
coal is conveyed 2057 feet over the Roaring Fork River to a surge bin
adjacent to the railroad loop.
Railroad cars break from the main line and are directed onto a "U"-shaped
railroad loop., which passes beneath the loadout coal surge bin. Coal
from the bin can then be loaded directly into cars.
The anticipated life of this mine could approach 60 years. Most of the
facilities needed for operations have already been constructed.
The information presented with the application was sufficient to satisfy
the requirements of this section. The application is deemed in
compliance with the requirements of this section.
XV. Mine Facilities. Ponds. Mine Facilities and Coal Handling Structures
Facilities used at the mine are identified and individually discussed in
Section 4.3.1.3 of the Snowmass Coal Company application. The loadout
facilities are also discussed in section 4.3.2. The following is a list
of facilities in use at the mine:
