File No. 260-005 <br />Dear Mr. Edwards: <br />Please accept this letter, together with the enclosed supporting documents, as Seneca <br />Coal Company's formal request for approval of the relinquishment of 2,280.00 acres, <br />more or less of coal mineral estate, as identified in the recordable relinquishment of <br />Federal Coal Lease form attached hereto and which we would file in the records of Routt <br />County, Colorado at such time as the Bureau approves our request. <br />This request for approval of relinquishment is being submitted in accordance with the <br />provisions of 43 CFR §3452.1. The purpose of this request for relinquishment is to <br />insure compliance by Seneca Coal Company and its affiliates with the acreage limitations <br />identified in 43 CFR §3472.1-3. This request for approval of relinquishment is one of <br />several that Seneca Coal Company and its affiliates are submitting in order to reduce the <br />total federal acreage in our portfolio. We respectfully request that all relinquishment <br />requests being submitted to the Bureau on this date receive simultaneous review and, <br />approval in order to avoid problems with non-contiguous acreage. <br />Seneca Coal Company either owns the surface estate overlying the areas of federal coal <br />being offered for relinquishment, or has rights of entry granted by private landowners. <br />The lease relinquishments being requested by this letter do not involve surface lands <br />under the jurisdiction of another federal agency. <br />The subject lease is covered by CNA Bond No. 9264474 in the amount of $5,000. <br />Reclamation of surface lands overlying the federal coal is insured by Bond Nos. 9264038 <br />and 9264039 in the amount of $136,736, which meets the current requirements of, is on <br />file with and is payable to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. <br />Seneca Coal Company • 1300 South Yale Street • Flagstaff, Arizona 86001 <br />Telephone (520) 774.5253 • Fax (520) 773-4596 <br />
