Page 3 • <br />.~ <br />The net effect of water recharge from the South Platte to the Hazeltine <br />lakes should be positive. The amount of recharge to the lakes during <br />the irrigation season will probably be small. Any recharge to the <br />lakes will help dilute the N03 concentrations found in the ground water <br />system. Mixing of lake waters on a West to East axis should be minimal <br />due in part to the laminar flow of ground water through the lakes; <br />this should be the case dispite water demands of nearby irrigation <br />wells. During periods of lowest river flows (peak summer irrigation), <br />the lake located closest to the South Platte River should be giving up <br />water to the South Platte. <br />Sampling of nearby domestic wells is probably a good idea to protect <br />all concerned; this should establish a baseline for future reference. <br />The staff recommendation to the Board to approve Hazeltine's application <br />still stands. <br />RTO:pas <br />
