I~
3. The site has no single feature which is referenced to a known, locatable point. In order to
compare the original and the new boundaries, I assumed that the portal itself was somewhat fixed,
and made all my measurements from that. Earlier maps provided a reference to the nearest
section comer to the northeast, measured to the portal.
4. Permit materials (original application and a subsequent revision} refer to ventilation raises
toward the south, within the claim block, which were created for mining under this permit. These
vent sites and access roads wf:re to be shown on the new map, plus any other areas which have
been disturbed for mining under this permit. Please refer to my inspection report of July 10,
1997.
5. The inspection report also states that the map(s) to be submitted must conform to the
standards in Rule 6. Specifically, please see Hard Rock and Metals Rules 6.2.1 (general map
standards), 6.4.3 (mining plan map) and 6.4.6 (reclamation plan map).
I appreciate the fact that the map has been submitted, even though it is after the corrective action
date. Likewise, I am glad to hear that you have a surveyor on staff who can handle these matters
without it taking up your time. However, the map submitted does not meet the requirement of
the corrective action, and I cannot consider that the problem has been corrected.
I must again ask you to further refine or revise the map to the needs of this abatement and the
standards in Rule 6. Your revised map(s) must be received at my office by May 31, 1998. If you
have questions or comments about these items, please contact me at the address or phone below:
Division of Minerals and Geology
484 Turner Dr., Bldg. F-101
Durango CO 81301
Phone: 970/24'1-5193; FAX: 970/247-5104.
I am not sure if it would help, but the file contains a recent computer-generated topographic
representation of the portal an:a, provided to the Division as part of the September, 1996, surface
radiation sampling, performed by Energy Fuels Nuclear. This information may still be available.
You may also encourage your surveyor to contact me directly if necessary.
Sincerely,
~6 ~~
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Spe~~ialist
cc: Michelle Rehmann, NBC, Denver
Jim Lovato, BLM, Durango
(a:\wsunmap. ad 1 /rco)
