iii iiiiiiiiiiiii iii
999 STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Director
DATE: August 4, 1989
T0: Carl Mount
FROM: Susan Mowry C~~
RE: Seneca II Vegetation Success
On July 20, 1989 I assisted Tim King with topsoil replacement depth sampling.
During that time I noted several areas which had very limited growth of seeded
species or none at all. These areas are described individually below:
1986 Area where soil holes #159 and #160 were drilled, had some growth
of thistle and yellow sweet clover. There were no indications that
the area had been seeded or mulched (drill rows or mulch residue).
The northeastern half of this area exhibited little soil cover and
the grading was extremely rough.
1981 Area where soil hole #158 was drilled, had no growth. There were no
indications that the area had been seeded or mulched.
1987 Area where soil holes #163 and #164 were drilled, exhibited primarily
yellow sweet clover. There were no indications of seeding or
mulching.
1988 Area where soil hole #165 was drilled, had no vegetative growth on
the northeastern half of the area. The hole was placed approximately
25 feet in from the line were vegetation growth stopped. There was
no indication of seeding or mulching.
1988 Area where soil holes #141, #142, #143 and #144 were drilled had
growth of yellow sweet clover and plantain. There were no
indications of seeding or mulch. Mr. Roy Karo verified that this
area had not been seeded last fall. He stated weather as the
limiting factor. He also stated that dry conditions had hampered
vegetation growth.
Note: Reference "Exhibit 3 with Mined Land Reclamation Division soil sample
locations" to locate these areas.
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
