ALBERT F~1 dr SONS, INC.
~. SAND AND GRAVEL
S
~RAI OFFICE6 AND PLANT
11571 BRIGHTON ROAD • HENDERSON, COLORADO 8080
1303) 488-3318
area involved. Mowing makes s~rrc~e in tYrose areas wl'rere some
c::oritrol is needed after revegetation is complete. It will
trot damage the vegetation we need to successfully corrlpletcs+
reclamation.
herbicides can be highly effective and safe especially
when used .in conjunction with the other mentioned tecYuiiques.
Care must be used during treatment of riparian areas to
pr•everrt contamination of water sources and off site damage.
Since most of the areas we are trying to control weed 9rowtFr
in are in close proximity to water sources we must use
Herbicides in isolated and controlled application. Another
issue that pertains to Frerbicide use is our reclamation plans
in relation to the process of revegetation. Care must be
taken to prevent herbicides front killing the grasses and
vegetation we are planting and maintaining_ American Pride
Fertilizer and Chemical Co .. has been very I~elpful ir'r
r'-econrruending herbicides that meet these special needs. We
see herbicides having a use in those areas where the noxious
weeds have invaded area needing revegetation and we are not
worried about killing grasses arrd Forbes we have planted.
Insects can be used for the long term management of
weeds. At present time this niearrs is still experimental and
array not be of any use to us at this time. We hav~a been
informed that the Gull fly migFrt be effective in managing
Kriapweed. We might introduce tyre Gull fly in areas that we
Dave completed reclamation, if economically feasible.
All of these methods aid in the control of weeds and
must be implemented with care and thougFrt. Eacl'r stage ol`'
reclamation will determine what types of weed control we use.
F=or the short term we will rely on mechanical means and
1'rerbicides to control Knapweed and Spurge on un-revegetated
areas away from lakes. The combination of mowing and
~rpPlication of herbicides will improve the chances of
corrtrollin9 these two weeds. TFris type of control will
lessen the chances of noxious weed in a new seed bed. Once
an area is revegetated; mowing, selective use of herbicides
::u+d~enchanted revegetation (cultural) methods will be most
desirable. The process of reclamation and maintenance will
~~ r"estore the area to a desirable end in the long run.
~.~,
G. _
