Box 187
Craig, CO 81626
Dear Mr. Mattern,
The Division received your letter dated November 19, 1992 regarding
the summary of agreements reached at the meeting. The memo clearly
defines the necessary information needed by the Division and/or
Trapper Mine.
The Division has a.response to the Following concerns:
Backfillina and Rough Grading
As agreed upon between the Division and Trapper Mine, additional
contractors would be contacted regarding equipment selection (D10N
Dozers vs. D11N Dozers), and the number of shifts used on site. Of
the 6 agreed upon contractors, the Division contacted all but
Granite Construction and Tarco. The Division's survey included
Morrison & Knudson, Srown 6 Root, Greens, and Ames Construction.
The general consensus regarding equipment selection is that D10N'.
Dozers would be the first choice for the project the size of
Trapper. Some contractors such as Brown ~ Root would be willing to
purchase a Dil Dozer if that is what the job required. The other
contractors statod that they would not use or buy D11N Dozers
because they are too large and do not accommodate the typical earth
moving job. D11N Dozers are not economically feasible because
there is too much down time in between jobs. D11N dozers were also
described as "few and Par between". It was the general consensus
among the contractors that DlON Dozers are more accessible than
D11N Dozers.
There was, however, one contractor that statefl that D11N Dozers
were available. Based on this information, the 'Division Peels that
Trapper should be entitled to use the coat of D11N Dozers in the
estimate. The Division estimated the usage of D11N Dozers compared
to D10N Dozers, and felt that the Division would have sufficient
funds if D11N Dozers were used in the estimate. The Division will
allow the cost for D11N Dozers in the estimate at the cost of
$214.15 on a double shift and $254.98 on a single shift.
