The 302 acre dry-land pasture supported 340 head of yearling heifers for 45 days. A range study by an independent consultant showed 39 percent utilization on the reclaimed pasture, after the yeazlings were taken out. The studies indicate that reclaimed surface-mined land provides excellent livestock grazing and wildlife habitat when compared to surrounding native pastures. It is possible to have coal for electricity and return the mined land to production of valuable range. Centennial Livestock owner Wayne Kruse said the ultra-sound tests, which can detect pregnancies with a near 100 percent success rate forty of more days after breeding a ewe, should make buyers of the ewes more comfortable with their purchases, and generate more in- come for the se8ers. Testing h2s been done in some parts of the country for about a year, and Centennial is the first livestock auction company in this area to offer the service.
