Box 1821
Colorado springs, CO 80901
RE: G.E.C.- Orphan Pit- Bond Revocation Project
RN-COAL-MINES-8
Dear Dr. Corley,
OF'~~L.
,,F
Ne
:816 ~
Roy Romer
Governor
Michael B.long
Division Director
The purpose of this letter ie to inform the Corley Company of the minor changes
made to the G.E.C.- Orphan Pit- Bond Revocation Project RN-GOAL-MINES-8. Field
Directives are issued to authorize work changes due to changed conditions within
the scope of the Purchase Order Contract. Changes to the contract have occurred
and are ae follows:
1. The east-west drainage at the Duck Pond Pit has been revised to
allow for ponding of water at the base of the pit. This ponding area will
eventually silt in naturally allowing for positive drainage. This change
was necessary because the drainage channel leaving the east aide of the
pit ie 5 to 6 feet higher than the drainage entering the west aide of the
pit. Therefore, positive drainage across the pit could not be
accomplished without major disturbance to the incoming drainage channel.
2. The diversion channel down the face of the Duck Pond Pit has been
eliminated from the scope of work. Contour furrows will instead be
established every 50 to 75 feet down the face of the Duck Pond Pit. These
contour furrows will direct water off of the face of the Duck Pond Pit
into the natural drainages.
3. Roughly half of the coal material located to the north of the Orphan
pit will be placed in the small pit north-west of the Orphan pit and will
be backfilled with spoil material. This will essentially reclaim an area
not previously included in the reclamation plan. All elope requirements
and topsoil specifications stated for the Orphan pit will apply to this
area.
Please note that there will not be an increase in the contract price as a result
of these changes. The project completion time has been extended to December 5,
1993. weather conditions may also extend the completion date.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
~~ S Cw~/`'-~~~
Erica S.
