Sand and Gravel Mine near Montrose, Colorado,
we would like to add an additional commitment regarding the dispute over the mine's
potential to encounter groundwater in Phase 1 of the operation. Due to the limited
recharge area above the pit, the confirmed thickness of the gravel, high percolation
rates, lack of water in other nearby pits, etc., we are so confident that groundwater will
be a non-issue that we will commit to stopping mining in any area of Phase 1 where a
nearby monitor well shows water within 25 feet of the surface at any time. Therefore,
using the 4 existing monitoring wells in each approximate corner of Phase 1, if the
southwest well shows water at 24' from the surface, the southwest quarter of the phase
will cease mining. If the southwest and southeast wells show water within 24' of the
surface, then the entire south %: of the phase will stop mining. Keep in mind that we
are only proposing to mine to a depth of 13' for the initial year while the well
monitoring is being done. CDMG will be welcome to conduct their own evaluations of
any well on site at any time.
Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks.
Sincerely\~~' ~~JV ~~
Greg wicki, P.E.
Greg Lewicki and Associates
cc: Mark Haldorson
