<br />1. Refuse Area #1 Rock Pile Habitat <br />Refuse Area #1 was completed during the summer of 1990. Rock <br />piles were placed randomly on the surface of the reclaimed waste <br />pile in order to add diversity to the topography at the reclamation <br />area. Past reclamation studies have shown rock pile habitat <br />provides shelter and wind breaks for raptor prey base such as <br />rodents and rabbits. Raptors frequently use rock outcrops as <br />hunting perches. Raptors such as eagles and hawks are present <br />within the permit area of the Deserado Mine. On several occasions, <br />raptors have been noted hunting on Deserado's constructed rock <br />piles at the Refuse Area #1. <br />Please note the following photos taken June 11 of this year. <br />
