Corrective actions will be necessary to secure bond release in the future for the East Wadge Pit area
and the old Wolf Creek Pit. SCC should submit a plan for DRMS review and approval for these two
locations. The surface water runoff control plan at the East Wadge Pit azea beginning above the
shrub plot study azea down to the South Road will need to be reevaluated to provide stable slopes and
effective post-mine drainage control. Post-Mine Channels PM-8, PM-8a, and PM-86 will need to be
redesigned and reconstructed. At the old Wolf Creek Pit, SCC should develop a plan for removing
the impounded water at the Wolf Creek Pond, backfilling and stabilizing the erosion (rills and gullies)
in the former pit azea, and provide a more stable medium for plant growth. As discussed with SCC
during an inspection of the pre-law area on September 1 S, 2006, the lower Wadge spoil azea is much
better vegetated and appears more stable than the old Wolf Creek Pit area. The Wadge spoil is less
acidic than the Wolf Creek spoil and provides a more suitable medium for plant growth. One
possible scenario would be to move spoil from the Wadge pre-law azea (since this material has a
neutral pH as opposed to Wolf Creek spoil) and place this as cover material over the old Wolf Creek
Pit and reseed both the old Wolf Creek Pit and the new disturbance created in the Wadge spoil area.
16
