The base resin of VLDPE sheet must be made up of resin that is in this density range. The
remaining portion must be made up of materials which are necessary for the performance of the
liner (such as carbon black, anti oxidants, etc.). The VLDPE sheet for Cripple Creek contains
approximately 2.5% carbon black and <.~°b anti oxidants. This meets the specifications for the
Cripple Creek project.
Union Carbide was the sole supplier of VLDPE resin being sold into the geomembrane
market. Union Carbide announced as of December 31, 1994 that VLDPE resin for the
geomembrane market would no longer be available. However, Poly-Flex was able to secure a
limited supply of VLDPE before production ceased. The density of this material was slightly
higher than what we had expected but was still within the specification range for VLDPE.
This resin, although slightly higher in density than previous VLDPE resins, was well within
NSF-54 standards. With the addition of carbon black, antioxidants, etc., the finished sheet density
can be as high as .928 for smooth and .930 for textured sheet, both well within industry standards
for VLDPE geomembrane.
Attached are the material certifications for the 80 mil smooth VLDPE geomembrane
produced for this project. Although some density values are greater than .925, other physical
properties exceed the project specifications.
The 80 mil VLDPE produced for this project will perform for the designed purpose. T•he
standard Poly-Flex, Inc. 10 yeaz pro-rata warranty will also be issued for this material.
Sincerely, n
,tf~fi/
James Nobert
Lab Manager
