The Corley Company
Phone 8325050 P.O. BO: 18Yt
COLOfU00 SPRINGS COLOMDO 80901
Nov. 18, 1994
Mr. Jim McArdle
Division of Minerals S Geology
1313 Sherman St.
Denver CO 80203
Dear Mr. McArdle:
•iiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiii
999
RECEIVED
NOV 21 1994
Division or Mmerais ~ Geology
The Corley Company would like to make the following formal complaints
concerning the GEC East Pit work.
1. The westerly slope of Chen's Hill and the northerly slope of the hill
between the East and West Pits are steeper than 3:1 H:V.
2. There is almost no topsoil on the westerly slope of Chen's Hill.
3. The drainage ditch along the road at the toe of Chen's hill has not
functioned adequately. This ditch has become completely filled with silt
near the entrance gate with most of the water and sediment entering Energy
Fuel's sediment pond. The silt deposition is sufficient to cover the first
strand of barbed wire on the fence on the west side of the road.
4. The silt deposition on the road will probably close the road during next
year's rains.
5. The road has nearly been washed out near the East Pit because of
inadequate provision for water to cross the road.
6. The entrance gate was damaged by the construction machinery, and we have
asked the contractor to replace the gate.
7. The entrance gate post was removed by the contractor. He did r.et replace
the post correctly, requiring that the post support be bent to connect to the
post. The post needs to removed again and reset with the correct
positioning.
8. The contractor's dozer was parked for an extended time outside the gate.
The dozer has leaked a considerable amount of oil that should be removed.
9. Most of the concrete structures have not functioned. ~I,~,t were not
installed correctly.
Sincerely,
W
W.D. Corley, .
President
