We appreciated the opportunity to have an advanced
discussion as to the nature of work that we will be conducting for Mountain Coal Company
(MCC) on the Box Canyon and "mini" South-of-Divide (mini-SOD) lease areas. We are writing
to confirm our understanding of the highlights of the meeting. Should your understanding of
the items covered below differ from ours, please call a[ your earliest convenience and we will
clarify the text, accordingly.
1. Kathy Welt of MCC started the meeting by describing the nature of the mining
proposed in the Box Canyon tract and in the mini-SOD tract. She noted that
WWE's role is [o quantify subsidence and probable hydrologic consequences
(PHCs).
2. Jim Pendleton asked if there are spring monitoring data yet in Box Canyon.
Kathy Welt replied that there are no such data yet but that MCC will begin to
collect the relevant data.
3. Richard Dunrud (subconsultan[ to WWE) described the methods that we intend
to use to quantify subsidence. WWE will utilize [he accepted conceptual
modelling approach as well as to state-of-[he-practice computer models to project
the magnitude and shape of the subsidence basins for each longwall panel. The
input will be based on the available site-specific data from the Wes[ Elk Mine and
surrounding mines.
