Spill reporting, containment and cleanup would occur immediately
and removed to the nearest approved landfill.
No Action Alternative -There would be no impacts to hazardous or solid wastes.
WATER QUALITY, SURFACE AND GROUND (includes a finding on Standard 5)
Affected Environment: No perennial water resources exist within the project area.
Several dry washes and intermittent stream channels occur throughout the Plan area. The
hydrological regime in the vicinity of the project area is such that surface water flows only in
response to significant precipitation events. Occasionally, ephemeral waterways are fed by
snowmelt, however, thunderstorms are the primary source of flow in these washes. Ephemeral
drainages in the project area generally discharge toward La Sal Creek. Primary surface water
resources in the vicinity of the project area include La Sal Creek and the Dolores River. The
perennial stream systems (Dolores River and La Sal Creek) support aquatic life, typically warm
water fisheries. The table below lists the Colorado State Water Quality classifications for the
surface waters that receive drainage from the subject area.
Table -Colorado Stream Classifications
Stream Segment Stream Classifications
LaSal Creek Aquatic Life Cold 1
Recreation la
Water Supply
A riculture
Dolores River Aquatic Life Warm 1
Recreation la
A riculture
"Cited from: Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Water Quality Control
Commission, Reg. # 35, Classifications and Numeric Standazds for Gunnison and Lower Dolores
River basins.
Along with the stream designations and classifications listed in the table above are numeric
and narrative standards. For example, the Recreation la classification limits Fecal Coliform to
200 colonies/100 ml, and E. coli to 126 colonies/100m1. The Aquatic Life Warm and Cold I
are waters that currently are capable of sustaining a wide variety of water biota, including
sensitive species, or could sustain such biota but for correctable water quality conditions.
