Mining Co ^ presently operates the Bear No. 3 Mine at Somerset. Total 1989 coal production at buys U.S. Steel mine The coal property at Somerset owned by Kaiser Coal Corporation has been sold to Somerset Mining Company. The Somerset property-for many years known as the U.S. Steel Minc-consis[s of a coal reserve totalling more than 300 million tons of high BTU, low sul- fur, soft coking/stcam coal (Typical coal quality oC 0.5 percent sulfur, 7.5 percent ash, 12,500 BTU and 35-plus volatile), unit train loading facility and mine support slruc- wres. The Somerset property was !or- merly owned and operated by the U.S. Stccl Corporation for the sup- ply of high volatile, soft coking coal to their steel mill at Provq Utah. - - dte Bear No. 3 Mine is in excess of 300,000 tons. Ox-bow Carbon and Minerals, Inc., is a worldwide vading, sales and processing company involved with coal, metallurgical coke, petroleum coke and industrial minerals with corporate otiices in West Palm Beach, Fla. and Ded- ham, Mass. The Pacific Basin Resources Division, the majority and sales partner of Somerset mining Com- pany, with head offices in Little- , tan and sales offices in Lafayette, Calif, Price, Utah and Vancouver. B.C., Canada, handles sales, pro- cessing and material vading for Ox-bow Carbon and Mineral Inc. in the western United States and Canada as well as certain export vansactions to the far east. Somerset Mining Company i From Paye t intends to proceed with environ- mental permitting with the state of Colorado for the purpose in instal- lation and operation of a new underground coal mine at the Som- ersetproperty. An underground mine with the capacity of 350,000 to 600,000 tons per year of high BTU/low sulfur, soft coking/steam coal is proposed for the property. Total employment at full pro- duction is expected to be from 60 to 100 employees with emphasis placed on employment of vained local personnel. Timing of mine installation and operation of the Somerset properly is dependent upon acquisition of necessary environmental permits and finalization of on-going coal sales contract negotiations. Somerset Mining Co. anticipat- ed full operation of the new Som- erset Mine within one to two years.
