Applicators and other handlers must wear:
Long-sleeved shirt and Long pants.
ShceS plus socks.
Follow manufacturer's instmctions for cleaning/maintaining PPE. If no such in-
parntely from other laundry.
USER SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
Users should: Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco
or using the mile[.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Do not apply directly m water, or to areas where surface water is present, or to
intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not contaminate water when
disposing of equipment washwaters.
This herbicide is injurious to plants at extremely low concenha[ions. Noniarget
plants may be adversely effected from drift and runroff.
IDIPORTANT
DO NOT USE ON FOOD OR FEED CROPS EXCEP7 AS RECOMMENDED BY
7}f15 LABEL OR SUPPLEMENTAL LABELING. Injury m or loss of desimble
trees or other plants may result from failure to observe the following: Do not
apply DuPont''" ESCORTa XP herbicide (except as recommended), or drain or
Flush equipment on or near desirable trees or other plants, or on areas where their
roots may extend or in locations where [he chemical may be washed or moved into
contact with their roots. Do not use on lawns, walks, driveways, tennis courts,
or similar areas. Prevent drift of spray [o desirable plants. Do no[ contaminate
any body of water, including iniga[ion water. Keep from contact with fertilizers,
insecticides, fungicides and seeds.
Following an ESCOR7° XP application, do not use sprayer for application m
crops. This is extremely important, as low rates of ESCOR'I~ XP can kill or
severely injure most crops (except small grains).
GENERAL INFORMATION
ESCOR"f® XP herbicide is a dispersible granule that is mixed in water and applied
as a spray. ESCORT° XP controls many annual and perennial weeds and woody
plants in non-crop areas and conifer plantations.
ESCOR'I® XP may be used for general weed and brush control on industrial
non-crop sites and for selective weed control in certain types of unimproved turf
grasses on industrial sires and in native grasses. It can also be used for comrolling
and suppressing undesirable weeds and hardwoods in conifer plantations.
ESCOR"I® XP conrols weeds and woody plants primarily by postemergent activ-
ity. Although ESCOR'I® XP has pwemergence activity, best results are generally
brained when ESCORT° XP is applied to foliage after emergence or dormancy
teak. Except where noted, ESCOR"1® XP provides the best results when applied
to young, actively growing weeds. The use rnte depends upon the weed species
and size at the time of application.
The degree and durntion of control may depend on the following:
• weed spectrum and infestation intensity
Database and format copyright ©bc CRP Press. All rights reserves
• weed size at application
• environmental conditions at and following treatmem
• soil pH, soil moisture, and soil organic matter
It is permissible to apply ESCOR'I® XP to floodplains where surface water is not
present, terrestrial areas of deltas and low lying areas where water is drnined but
may be isolated in pockets due to uneven or unlevel conditions.
ESCOR7° XP is noncortosive, nonflammablq nonvolatile and does no[ freeze.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY
ESCOR'I® XP is absorbed primarily through the foliage of plants, and by the
roots to a lesser degree. Plant cell division is generally inhibited in sensitive
plants within a few hours following uptake. Two to 4 weeks after application,
leaf growth slows followed by discolorn[ion and tissue death. The final effect on
annual weeds are evident about 4 to 6 weeks after application. The ultimate effect
on perennial weeds and woody plants occurs in the growing season following
application.
Warts, moist conditions following treatment promote the activity of ESCOR'I®
XP, while cold, dry conditions may reduce or delay activity. Weeds and bmsh
hardened off by cold weather or drought stress may no[ be controlled.
The use of a surfactant is recommended [o enhance the control of susceptible
plants, ezcept where noted. Apply at a minimum rnre (concentration) of U,%
volume/volume (1 qt, per 100 gal. of spray solution), or at the manufacturer's
recommended rate. Use only EPA approved surfactants containing at (east 80%
active ingredient Cenain types of surfactants, such as [hose incorporating acetic
acid (i.e. LI-700), may not be compatible with ESCOR'I® XP and may result
in decreased performance. Certain surfactants may not be suitable for use on
desimble plants, such as Turf and conifers, listed on this label. Consult the
surfactant manufacturer's label for appropriate uses.
Weed and bmsh control may be reduced if rninfall occurs soon after application.
RESISTANCE
Biorypes of certain weeds listed on this label are resistant to ESCOR'1® XP and
other herbicides with the same mode of action, even at exaggerated application
rates. Biorypes are nammlly occurring individuals of a species that are identical in
appearance but have slightly different genetic compositions; the mode of action of
a herbicide is the chemical interaction that interrupts a biological process necessary
for plant growth and development.
If weed conuol is unsatisfactory, i[ may be necessary to retreat problem areas
using a product with a different mode of action, such as pos[emergence broadleaf
and/or grass herbicides.
If resistant weed biotypes such as kochia, prickly terrace, and Russian thistle are
suspected or known to be presem use stank-mix partner with ESCOR7° XP to
help control these biotypes, or use a planned herbicide rotation program where
other residual broadleaf herbicides having different modes of action are used.
