<br />rya r'-GV-V1 VO:YV VJrJ~VrW VU(1 KU <br />y/Vt3L/+4Lb1 <br />• <br />The 404 permit included: the construction of a settling pond to mitigate the effects of in- <br />channel equipment work. <br />The work performed: Because no earthwork or equipment was operated in the sveam the <br />settling pond was eliminated. <br />The 404 permit included: mature willow vansplants on newly built point bazs. <br />The work performed: No point bars were constructed in the floodplain, and so no mature <br />willow transplanting occurred. As previously mentioned, willow cuttings will be planted in the <br />constructed terrace. <br />The 404 permit included: the regrading of relic islands to improve visuals. <br />The work performed: This work was accomplished and contributed to an improvement in the <br />site chazacter (see map, detail D) . The material removed from the upper island was used to <br />build [he west bank of the San ivliguel above the confluence to eliminate severs] braided <br />channels. This will still function as a flood channel if needed. The material from the lower <br />island contributed to the development of the lower terrace. <br />The 404 permit included: the creation of a small wetland ecosystem as a part oCsite <br />enhancement. <br />The work performed: This was accomplished. As a part of fmal floodplain site grading below <br />the confluence the wetland hydrology for aquarter-acre size wetland was created (see map, detail <br />E). This enhancement element of the project will be planted later this season with wetland <br />species. <br />The 404 permit included: The removal of the dike on National Forest land. The dike is located <br />below the confluence and extends upstream from private land. The dike separates the primary <br />channel from access to its floodplain. <br />The work performed: This work will be completed as originally planned (see map, detail F) . <br />Some minor si[e regrading remains to be done. <br />We do no[ wish to terminate the 404 permit at this time, which will remain in effect until January <br />1, 2002. While we do not have immediate plans to do work beyond that which has been <br />de.;ctibed v,we do net want to rule out that possibility.
