. r
one is for the moist valley bottom and the other for the mixed mountain shrub
community on the hillside. Pre-mining data from the adjacent mines were
averaged to set standards for herbaceous cover and productivity as identified
below:
Vallev Bottom Hillside
Herbaceous Cover: 70% 41%
Herbaceous Productivity: 3500 lbs/acre 500 Ibs/acre
D. Species Diversity: Using relative cover or production values for each species, the
reclaimed azeas will have at least four perennial species with relative importance
equal to or greater than 30%, but with all species combined not to exceed 75% in
relative importance. Any one of the four species cannot exceed 40% in relative
importance.
E. Based upon a request from Sunland, the Division assisted in developing the seed
mixture presented on page 184 of the permit application. This seed mixture was
used during final reclamation of this mine site and does not have any shrub
species. The landowner has requested that no shrubs be planted to allow for more
growth of desirable grass and forb species for grazing purposes. Due to the limited
areal extent of the area to be reclaimed and the wooded nature of adjacent areas,
the Division has agreed to this request.
XII. Post-mining Land Use
Suntand Mining Corp. proposes returning these disturbed areas back to the premining
land use of grazing land and wildlife habitat except for Routt County Road 29. Routt
County has requested that this road remain after mine reclamation. The Division approves
the proposed postmining land use of grazing and wildlife habitat. Information pertaining
to land use is presented on pages 12-13.6 and 187.1-188 of the permit application
(4.16.3.).
XIII. Protection of Fish, Wildlife and Related Environmental Values
Information pertaining to fish and wildlife is presented on pages 116-122 of the permit
application.
All wildlife species that have been found within the general azea were listed and their
preferred habitats described. Due to the limited areal extent of surface disturbance and
pre-existing nature of this disturbance, the Division has determined that impact to wildlife
and wildlife habitat will be minor. Also, Sunland Mining Corp. is not proposing any
additional land disturbance. All disturbed runoff at the Apex No. 2 Mine is routed
through a sedimentation pond or otherwise controlled to minimize deleterious effects of
Apex No. 2 Mine, C-81-011 17 April 17, 1998
