Box 518
Somerset, Colorado 81434
RE: B-Seam Uverburoen Analyses: Satisfaction of Stipulation 26 attacneo to
Minor Revision 5 (NR-05) and Commitment from Minor Revision 6 (MR-Do');
Bear Mine #3, C-81-03s.
Dear Mr. Springer:
Tne Division has reviewed your submittal dated July 29, 1989 (receives at our
offices on August 2, 1989) which was in response to both Stipulation 26 of
Minor Revision 5 and a commitment associates with Minor Revision 6.
Stipulation 26 required two geotechnical samples be taken from material
excavates for Ramp 4 construction. Ramp 4 connects the C seam and the new B
seam workings. A commitment associated with Minor Revision #6 required one
sample to be collected from material from Ramp 2 which was also developed from
the C seam to the 8 seam. Bear Coal Company has complied with the
requirements of Stipulation 26 and exceeaed the requirements of the Minor
Revision 6 commitment.
Sample results have been reviewed. The results confirmed the conclusions that
the Division reached through analysis of an earlier sample taken during the
l+larcn 2, 1989 CMLRD inspection. These conclusions were included in the
coirment section of the June Z7, 1989 CMLRD mine site inspection report.
Permanent disposal of development waste in the present temporary pile will
require 4 feet of nontoxic cover because of high sodium and SAR values (44.0,
7.1, 27.2, 31.1, 33.9). These values, with one exception, exceed the SAR
standard of 12 which has been proposed b.y the Montana Department of State
Lanus ana the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.
if you have any questions, please ao not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
1Aattnew S.
