It incorporates species or growth-form composition with <br />the relative contribution of each species of growth-form to the community. <br />It is suggested that evaluation of reclamation success be performed <br />at the growth-form level because it allows flexibility in the selection <br />of species to be used in reclamation while retaining the essential structure <br />of the vegetation community disturbed. <br />We believe that the index of similarity is more appropriate than the <br />Shannon-Wiener function in evaluating reclamation success because it simul- <br />taneously accounts for diversity plus commonality of each component. More- <br />over, it is easily calculated and understood by the lay individual. <br />
