It is a major energy resource for the country and is
on the verge of being placed into production.
In our discussion with Mr. Price it is apparent that MLRD
thinks of the project as being ended and only reclamation remains
to be accomplished. We, however, think of the project as actually
just starting with many years of production ahead.
The roads and benches which have been created and presently
exist are of great value, and if preserved, will make start-up of
the mine much quicker and easier.
Present MLRD plans, if carried out, will eliminate one bench
entirely and severely reduce another. Both presently existing
benches are necessary to the entries existing on the two coal seams
- the Anchor and the Cameo.
It seems inappropriate and wasteful to spend 50 to 90 thousand
dollars to reclaim the area and then to have to turn around and re-
establish the roads and benches at comparable cost, thus doubling
the cost.
