Edna Mine Vegetation Final Bond Release Monitoring 2005-2006
succulents, subshrubs, shrubs, trees, designated noxious and targeted weeds
species, and plant species formally listed under the Endangered Species Act will
not be included in herbaceous production samples.
Samples will be oven dried for at least 24 hours using standard accepted
methods. Following oven drying, each herbaceous production sample will be
weighed and its weight recorded to the nearest 0.1 gram. Production sample
information will be reported by life form and total production for each sample
point. Trace samples will be reported as 0.1 grams when they occur.
Woody Stem Density
Belt transects will be used to measure woody stem density. Shrub/subshrub
composition and density will be measured using belt transects that are 100
square meters in size (2 x 50 meters). Belt transects will begin at the designated
sample start point and will be oriented as previously described above.
In reclaimed areas where woody stem density is highly variable, mapping of
higher density woody stem sub-areas may be performed. This will allow
segregation of woody stem density samples into high and low density subsets for
bond release and statistical testing purposes.
Each full shrub or subshrub that is rooted within and whose crown emerges from
the ground within the belt transect will be recorded by plant species. Shrubs and
subshrubs with multiple stems from a specific crown will be recorded as one
plant. Density data will be reported by plant species, plant life form (i.e., shrub,
subshrub and tree) and total woody plant density in the monitoring report.
VEGETATION PARAMETER SAMPLE POPULATION ADEQUACY
Sample population statistics will be provided demonstrating that the sample
population is comprised of at least the minimum number of required samples and
that adequacy has been met, or the maximum sample size has been reached for
Habitat Management, Inc. 14 3/23/2006
