Long,
Division Director
As requested, I have reviewed the annual vegetation survey for the
Bourg Mine. The methodology, reporting format, and breakdown in
this report are excellent. I would agree with the general
assessment that no serious long term damage was sustained as a
result of the trespass grazing activities. However, the operator
should make ever effort to prevent a recurrence of this activity in
1992. Also the fact that sagebrush cover increased may be
attributed in part to the grazing activity. It certainly did not
appear to impact it negatively. it will also be interesting to see
what vegetative components do actually come back in 1992 which is
when we will really be able to assess the impact of the grazing.
Which brings up a question. Will Bourg be sampling vegetation in
the summer of 1992 ? If not, the Division may want to sample this
area to monitor how the vegetation comes back without the grazing
pressure.
If you have any questions, please see me.
cc: Dave Berry
