Hawk's Nest Coal silo Facility Reclamation Project
RN-COAL-MINES-9
Work Narrative
The Hawk's Nest Coal Silo Facility Reclamation Project comprises
the South 1/2 of Section 10, Township 135, Range 90W along old
State Highway 133. The Hawk's Nest Mine site has been ordered to
be reclaimed by the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Mined
Land Reclamation Board (the Board). Reclamation work to be
accomplished under this contract is limited primarily to the Coal
Silo area. Project work will involve demolishing and removing the
(2) two coal silos and the adjacent conveyor system and truck dump
scale, creating a borrow area for the demolished silos, and burying
the demolished material.
The CONTRACTOR shall utilize controlled blasting techniques for the
two (2) coal silos. Controlled blasting refers to the controlled
use of explosives and blasting accessories in carefully spaced and
aligned drill patterns. Any cost resulting from damage to adjacent
roadways, transmission lines, railroad facilities, nearby
structures, or vegetation will be the responsibility of the
CONTRACTOR.
The contractor will conduct a pre-blast survey of all structures
and facilities located in the area of the blasting work. Such
structures and facilities include, but are not limited to the
Hawk's Nest Guest House, DMEA Substation, railroad tracks, utility
lines and existing roads. The CONTRACTOR must submit to the State,
Mountain Coal Company and the Rio Grande Railroad prior to the
initial blast methods of stabilizing or protecting adjacent
structures, such as the railroad tracks within two weeks prior to
beginning any work. The CONTRACTOR will be responsible for
submitting a blast design to the State, Mountain Coal Company and
the Rio Grande Railroad of the initial blast not later than 7 days
prior to beginning drilling.
All portions of each structure removed by the CONTRACTOR but not
taken as salvage shall be disposed of within the Coal Storage
working limits areas or hauled to the county landfill. On-site
disposal shall consist of burying demolished material in the old
sediment pond or creating a borrow area within the coal silo
facility area.
m:\coal\esc\hawk\worknar
