Gttany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division has reviewed the "Scope of Work -Collom Mining Area Order II and
Order III Soil Surveys" submitted by Judd Stazk of Maxim Technologies. The report was
quite thorough and should result in a very good product. The following aze the Divisions
comments regarding the submittal.
1. Consideration should be given to the potential use of soil horizons rated "poor" or
"unsuitable" due high coarse fragment content. Separate salvage of such
materials might be warranted for use in specified locations to enhance the
establishment of shrub species adapted to rocky soil conditions.
2. Analytical pazameters not specified in the Preliminary Suitability Rating Guide
table (i.e. conductivity, SAR) might possibly also influence soil salvage
determinations.
3. Blanket designation of soils on slopes steeper than 40 percent as "unsuitable",
would not be appropriate. Any such determination would need to be based on a
number of considerations, including soil quality, depth, and aerial extent.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns at (303) 866-4929.
Sincerely,
~-___ _ -"
James R.
