Lochhead
Enecurive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Dnenor
On January 26, 1995, our Coal Program Supervisor received an anonymous letter from an
employee at the Seneca II-W Mine. I transmitted a facsimile of the letter to you yesterday, and
have enclosed a copy herein. The employee had two complaints regazding the mine, one of
which may be of concern to the BLM. The employee alleged that the mine operation has been
wasting tens of thousands of tons of coal in the North pit area. Our records show that coal is
owned by the United States.
This Division plans to investigate the other allegation, and therefore will ask your cooperation
in not informing Seneca Coal Company ersonnel of the complaint before we are able to do so.
We will also request that the BLM notipfy the Division of any BLM action on this matter.
If you or your staff have questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Bur aier ~
Environmental Protection Specialist
Enclosure
s[,s~om3vsn.we
