vim, o~ ~~ / 7 ~'
•
I. Mining Plan
111 lllllllllllll lfl
The material to be mined is of various quality sand and gravel. For
this reason, the progression of the mine is based on the demand for
a particular commodity at a given time.
Prior to extraction of the material to be sold, ail topsoil and subsoil
suitable as a growth medium will be stripped by a scrapper and stockpiled
on site. The topsoil and subsoil is to be segregated and 'stockpiled
separately. The depth of topsoil ranges from 0"-18". The depth of sub-
soil or overburden ranges from 18" to 10 feet. The depth of the gravel
is from 9-20 feet. Currently material is stockpiled on the site whieh
includes a stockpile containing approximately 25,000 cubic yards of top-
soil.
The amount of area affected by mining has averaged I to 2 acres per year.
Equipment to be used in the mining operation includes a scrapper, loader,
D-8 cut, and, as needed, a portable crushing and screening plant.
II. Reclamation
The timetable for the area to be mined is such that a given area will be
mined for its particular value when there is a market demand. However,
once extraction of material has been completed, the area will be regraded,
retopsoiled, and reseeded within one growing season of the completion of
mining.
Post mining contours will not exceed 3:1 slopes. The area will be retop-
soiled with 6" - 12" of salvaged .topsoil. The operator intends to use
manure as an amendment to the soil. The manure wilt be disced into the
soil. At the time of reclamation if it is determined that soil amendments
such as phosphorous or nitrogen need to 6e added, they will be added. Also,
after the seed has been drilled, straw mulch will be used if it is deemed
necessary.
The. area is to be grazed after reclamation, however, grazing will noL be
allowed until 'the Mined Land Reclamation Board and the Soil Conservation Scr~ice
have been consulted and approve a grazing grogram. This means reclaimed
areas will need to be fenced~to prevent grazing.
The seed mix is: Western Wheatgrass 3 lb. P.L.S_/Acre
Side Oats'Gramma 5 lb. P.L.S./Acre
Blue Gramm ;5 lb. P.L.S./Acre
Sand 1)ropseed .5 lb. P.L.S./Acre
+ } lb_/acre yellow sweet clover
