~LAFARG E
NORTH AMERICA
Construction Materials
August 19, 2003
RECEIVED
AUG 1 9 2003
Ms. Erica Crosby Division ~f Minerals and Geology
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: McCoy Pit, Permit No. M-1981-088 -Request for Time Extension
Dear Ms. Crosby:
In response to your inspection report dated June 10, 2003, Lafarge West, Inc. (Lafarge) would
like to request an extension of the September 1, 2003 deadline for correction of your noted
problem issue. As you are aware any changes to the reclamation plan will also have to be
reviewed and approved by the State Land Boazd. We will not be able to complete the revised
mine plan and reclamation plan by September 1, 2003 and also secure the approval of the State
Land Board. We are requesting that the deadline be December 30, 2003 for our work. This
request is based on the following schedule:
1) We have requested bids from three contactors to complete a new topographic map o£
the mine that reflects the current conditions. Due to the age of this site, no good
topographic base exists which will allow Lafarge to complete the revised plans with
completing a new survey. The revised topographic maps aze to be completed by the end
of September 2003.
2) In conjunction with the placement of the control panels for the topographic mapping,
Lafarge will have the permit boundary surveyed and place the required markers along
this perimeter.
3) Upon completion of the revised topographic map, Lafarge will prepare a new mine and
reclamation plan for the site. We anticipate completing this work by the third week of
October. The revised plans will then be submitted to the State Land Board for review.
Allowing the State Land Board time for review, discussions, potential changes, and
approval of the final plan we believe we will be at or near Thanksgiving in late
November.
Western U.S. Region
1400 W. 64th Ave., P.O.
