The
mill, one-half mile east of the town
of Gold Hill at Horsfal Flats, will
process gold ore from the nearby
Cash mine, Steen said.
The mine was discovered in 1872
and was reopened by the Gold Hill
Mining Company, Predecessor of
the Gold Hill Ventures Limited
Partnership, in September 1983.
"We ezpett to complete the con-
struction phase of the mill within 30
days,., said Steen. "The electrical
and special millwright work will
take another 30 to ~L5 days. The mill
should be crompleted by the end of
the year."
With a capacity of Ii0 tons of ore
Per daR the mill has been designed
to utilize both gravity and flotation
rnncentration systems. It will have
the capability of processing the
several types of ores that are found
in the Gold Hill mining district.
These consist of gold-silver-tellu-
rides, and various combinations of
gold, silver, lead, zinc and capper
sulfides.
Steen said the mill is being built
to process ore from Gold Hill Veo-
lures properties, and it will not be
used as a custom milling facility.
He encouraged Boulder County
mine owners to continue to ship
their ore to Hendricks Milling
Company in Boulder.
The metal frame building now
going up is 70 feet wide, 120 feet
long, and 30 feet high, with three
separate levels. The upper terrace
will be used for crushing and grind-
ing, the middle terrace contains
the equipment for gravity concern
tration, and the lower level en-
closes a flotation concentration
circuit
"The site was selected to reduce
the costs of transportation, mini-
mize irregularities in the receipt of
ore, and eliminate the need for ez-
pensive storage facilities," said
Steen. "By constructing the mill
near the eristirrg mine, labor and
supervision can be drawn from the
same source, thereby reducing
costs and anrinq the efficiency
and security of both operations.
The project already has provided
several local people with employ-
ment."
Most local residents are taking a
guarded approach to their new
neighbor on the hill, although some
of their croncerns about the mill's
environmental impact were alle-
viated by aquestion-and-answer
session with Steen at a recent town
meetinng.
On Sept. 30, the Mined Land Reo-
lamation Board, part of the Colora-
do Department of Natural
Resources, issued the company
their mining and reclamation per
nit, with five stipulations regard-
ing ground water quality and
tailings impoundment. The stipula-
tions were prompted, in part, by a
review of the permit application by
Bob Mason, Chai_*+*+a*+ Of Gold
Hill's Committee on Mining and
the Environment "All make com-
mon sense and relate W monitoring
Eor environmental quality," said
Steen. "We were very pleased with
the fair hearing that we received
from the Mined Land R e t~tion
Board."
Full-scale mining and milling is
ezpected to be under way in the
early spring.
BCO~
Std
By JENNIFER PA
Sp~cld to tFls Tlm~e
BROOMFIELD -
some beers down
One more beer anc
head home, call it .
In the dark fall ~
eyed as he slipped
ignition and stare
junker.
He turned onto
the stereo on full h
it was all right W d
was okay, and he
drive cautiously.
In another car, a
the jeep veering alc
no-passing line.
