The required $217 fee has been paid. Well permit no, 53050-F is
currently issued to the pit itself, and permit no. 54629-F was issued for use of an existing well
as an alternate point of diversion for 53050-F that would be used to supply water for concrete
batching, product needs and dust suppression purposes.
The gravel pit is located in the SE '/, of the NW '/< and the NE '/< of the SW '/< of Sec.
18, T23S, R42W, 6th P.M. Groundwater is exposed in two pits with a maximum area of 28.5
acres. The estimated maximum net depletion from the gravel pit operation is 167.15 acre-feet
per year. This level of annual depletion consists of 123.45 acre-feet of evaporative loss from
28.5 acres of ground water exposure, 23.54 acre-feet of water retained on the mined product,
12.48 acre-feet of water used in dust suppression, and 7.68 acre-feet of water used in concrete
batching.
A monthly breakdown of the estimated consumption is given on the attached Table 1.
Also given on the table are the lagged depletions to the Arkansas River as both absolute
amounts and as percentages of the concurrent consumption. In practice, monthly replacement
water will be provided to the river based on a percentage of that month's actual consumption as
determined from exposed water surface, weight of mined product, yards of concrete produced,
and metered pumping for dust suppression.
The proposed source of replacement water to cover this year's depletions comes from
208.9 acre-feet of consumable water purchased from Colorado Springs Utilities which is
expected to cover depletions by the gravel pit operation plus a 25 percent allowance for
evaporation, transit loss, and for storage losses. This 208.9 acre-feet is to be a portion of the
water purchased by LAWMA for various post-1985 well users for which it administers substitute
supply plans. This water will be delivered into the Offset Account in John Martin Reservoir.
