Lochhead
6ecuhve Director
Mkhzel B. long
Diris~on Director
We recently reviewed the Camp Bird Annual Report. The report indicated that the site has been,
and may continue to be, inactive for at least six months. Please refer to the Hard Rock Rules and
Regulations Sections 1.13 whiL;h state that if an operation ceases production for a period of
180 days or more, the operator must file a Notice of Temporary Cessation with the Board. This
notice must state the date of cessation, the reasons for cessation, a plan for the resumption of
mining, a description of those activities the operator will take to ensure compliance with the permit
reclamation requirements and a1 description of site maintenance activities to ensure compliance with
the performance standards (Rule 31. The Notice of Temporary Cessation should be sent to the
Division separate from other correspondence.
As an alternative to temporary cessation, you may submit a Technical Revision to your permit to
indicate that the operation will be intermittently active throughout its life. The technical revision
application must include a description of those activities the operator will undertake to ensure
compliance with the permit reclamation requirements, and a description of the site maintenance
activities which will ensure compliance with the performance standards (Rule 31. Rule 1.13.7
addresses this technical revision.
Since the annual report indicated that operations have temporarily ceased, you should submit either
a request for temporary cessation or a technical revision within the next 45 days. If the request
indicates that the site is sufficiently stabilized, we will approve the request for cessation within
sixty days of receipt. If the request indicates that there may be some problems with the site, we
will either request more inform:3tion from you, or schedule the site for an inspection. If you submit
a technical revision to the perrrlit, we will process it within 30 days.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Since/J ~-e~9y' (/
Steve S.
