Edna Mine Vegetation Final Bond Release Monitoring 2005-2006
successful for that parameter. In order to make a direct comparison, the sample
size(s) must meet population adequacy requirements. Statistical testing for
population adequacy will be performed as described in the Bond Release
Guideline.
If the parameter sample mean for the reclaimed area is less than 90% of the
standard, statistical testing may be used to demonstrate that the difference is not
statistically significant. When this occurs, appropriate statistical tests may be
performed for each monitored vegetation parameter and comparison to its
release standard values. Either non-parametric or parametric testing may be
used to demonstrate that the minimum standard for each vegetation bond
release parameter has been met.
Hypothesis testing as described in the Bond Release Guideline is the first option
that may be used when the reclaimed area is less than 90% of the standard. The
second option that may be used is the one-sample t-test as described in the
Bond Release Guideline.
In addition to testing described in the Bond Release Guideline, the statistical
tests described in the remainder of this section may be used to demonstrate that
vegetation parameter standards have been met by the reclaimed area. Selection
of these statistical tests will be based upon the type of comparison being made.
The selection of tests will be at the discretion of The Pittsburg & Midway Coal
Mining Co. ('P&M"). A listing of statistical tests and their hierarchy for one-sample
procedures for comparison with a technical standard are presented on Figure 3:
One-Sample Comparison Procedure-Reclaimed Area to Technical Standard. A
listing of statistical tests and their hierarchy for two-sample procedures for
comparison with a technical standard are presented on Figure 4: Two-Sample
Comparison Procedure-Reclaimed with Reference Area.
Habitat Management, Inc. 16 4/8/2005
