Pitch Reclamation Project -Sediment Control Ernbankment
for the winter and spring of 2001. Implementation of the remedial measures was completed in October
2001.
1.2 Scope of Work
The scope of work for this project consisted of four main tasks. The first task was to observe
the embankment and determine if any problems or potential impacts to the safety of the embankment
existed based on the occurrence of [he wet area. The second task was to determine alternative
measures to correct the seepage problem in order for the embankment to operate safely with the pond
at full capacity. The third task was to establish an interim operating level for the pond to function
through the Spring 2001 runoff since the preferential seepage path could not be remedied prior to the
onset of winter in late 2000. The first three tasks were completed and documented in summary letters
to Homestake as the work was completed. The fourth task was to observe construction of the
remedial design and prepare an as-built report for record with the CDWR State Engineer's Office.
1.3 Scope of Report
The scope of this report is to provide a summary of [he work completed and document the
construction and as-built conditions of the remedial design. This report includes a summary description
and construction guidelines for the remedial work, and a summary of the field revisions made during
construction. This report is completed for review by Homestake and for record at the CDWR State
Engineer's Office.
2.0 SEDIMENT CONTROL EMBANKMENT and POND
2.1 General
The sediment control embankment is located in the lower elevation on the western side of the
Pitch Project area. It is situated on Indian Creek to capture runoff from the headwaters of Indian
Creek and from Tie Camp Creek. Most of the project facilities are located in the upper Indian Creek
drainage area with the South Pit area and small reclaimed ore and waste storage units being in the Tie
Camp Creek area (see Figure 1). The Pitch Mine is currently not operating and has undergone
extensive reclamation during the ongoing closure process.
The Homestake Mining Company -Z- The Glasgow Engineering Group, /nc.
