Walther
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division DueUOr
To follow up on my letter to you, dated May 19, 1999., the Division sent a request for bids for maintenance
work at the Grassy Gap mine site in May, 1999, with the intent of work being conducted during June 1999.
We received two responses to the call for bid requests. Both bids exceeded the amount the Division has
available to perform the work. The Division chose not to conduct the maintenance work at that time. The
Division re-posted the request for bids in August. Three bids were received. The lowest bidder and the
company to whom the bid will be awarded to was RN Robinson construction based out of Hayden.
The Division plans for the work to take two to three days commencing on October 12, 1999. As we
discussed on the phone earlier in the summer, if this timing will interfere with Cross Mountains hunting
operations, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can reschedule the contractor. Someone from
the Division, either Steve Renner or I, will be in contact with you closer to October to arrange access to the
site
Thank you for providing the gate combination to me on August 20, 1999, when I was on site to inspect the
mine. Conditions are much as previously noted. The site appears to have been quite dry this summer as
noted by the stunted growth of the Smooth Brome grass. I did not observe as much houndstoungue as in
previous years. I was able to post one of the Division's identification signs at the intersection of the access
roads to Pit 2/3 and Pits 1, 5 and 6.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Janet H. inns ~
Environmental Protection Specialist
