JUL- 5-,95 WED 227 PM TESSE~CT PRODUCTIONS FAX N0, 379713
Excavation of the proposed borrow area "m bedrock" is likely m
produce precious little material in tttaay places. The "lumps'
under the present liner along the back wall are there because they
are exposed bedrock. Excavation of any significant volume of
material is going to require blasting or equivalent heavy material
removal technology. While we see m reason in principle why this
canoe[ be done, it does raise certain practical difficulties.
Is "the edge" m which the 3` HDPE tubing will be extended the
west/aorthwest edge or ? Also, will the tubing exit through the
liner really occur oa the soutltwrtit, rather than the southeast?
Topsoil Removal
flow is "topsoil" effearvely defined SO SS m be understandable m
the heavy equipment operator on site? We wonder, for example,
wlrethcr the interim embanlmieat raise has been accomplished with
"decayed granite" or with (mostly) mpsoil re-identified as
something else.
]3orrow Area Excavation
Achieving a satisfactory interface between the existing pond edge
and the botmm slope of the pond extension will be tricky, given
the presence of old liner, deposited tailings, and the necessity for
proper bedding laydown and compaction. This process deserves
some further discussion.
Again, bedrock is already exmced in places along the existing
pond backwall. Also, compaction of soft material around outcrops
will probably have m be done by hand, rather than by a vibratory
roller.
Pond Liner Installation
What will be the required minimum compacted thickness of the
minus 3/8" material m lx compacted by the vilsrBtAry roller?
Is there an industry-standard set of specifications for the lap-joint
welding and testing? If so, please identify; if not please specify
requirements. What is the requited minimum engagement of the
liner and anchor trench?
P. 4
