except for grade requirements. The 400 feet of road has an overall grade of 12.5 percent, <br />in exceedence of the 10 percent upper limit for overall grade, as required in Rule <br />4.03.1(3)(a)(i) and in exceedence of the maximum grade of 10 percent for any 300 foot <br />section within any 1000 foot length, as required in Rule 4.03.1(3)(a)(iii). The Division <br />granted Bowie Resources= request [o accept this alternative design, as allowed in Rule <br />4.03.1(1)(e), based on the performance history of this road over the yeazs. <br />II. Support Facilities -Rule 4.04 <br />The mine facilities at the Bowie No. 1 Mine aze predominately located in three azeas - <br />the main mine, the Bowie No. 1 West Mine and the train loadout. Three other <br />miscellaneous structures are found within the permit area. They include the guard shack <br />on Steven's Gulch Road, the 500,000-gallon water tank and well house at the Steven's <br />Gulch wellfield, and the Bowie No. 1 West Mine pipeline. These facilities are described <br />in Section 2.05, and maps aze found in Volume 8A. <br />The main mine facilities are located east of Steven's Gulch Road. Facilities include the <br />office bath house building, the warehouse and shop, a crushing and screening building, a <br />transfer tower, conveyor structures, and a truck loading station. Two water tanks <br />(100,000 gallon and 200,000 gallon) are found on the north end of the disturbed area. In <br />addition, a fueling azea, a sewer plant, and waste oil storage tank are found at the site. <br />The Bowie No. 1 Mine has temporazily ceased mining. However, the office and <br />wazehouse are still being used. The coal which had been stockpiled at the <br />crusher/screener bench has been transported by truck to the Bowie No. 1 loadout and <br />shipped out by rail. <br />Facilities at the Bowie No. 1 West Mine include three portals, a warehouse, shop, <br />fueling station and rockdust tank. A substation provides a power linkage to the mine. A <br />200,000-gallon water tank and ventilation fan lie one-quarter mile north of the portal <br />cut. At the time of this renewal application, the West Mine facilities aze being <br />dismantled. Some of the equipment is being transported to the Bowie No. 2 Mine for <br />use. <br />The train loadout includes a scale, a truck dump, three silos, two conveyors, and a <br />loadout building linked to a rail spur. A small shop, sewage treatment and substation <br />aze also located at the site. Although mining has ceased, the loadout and highway coal <br />stockpile areas are still being used. <br />All facilities and coal handling structures are in compliance with the rules and <br />regulations. <br />III.
